Description
In 2019 James Lancel McElhinney explored stretches of the Rio Grande valley in northern New Mexico, filling his journal with watercolors of various views and vistas translated into a series of monotypes, etchings and paintings. McElhinney is represented by Gerald Peters Gallery in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
In 2020 Needlewatcher Editions published Grand River Sketchbook, which includes a signed, numbered and dated color intaglio etching by James Lancel McElhinney, printed by Philadelphia master-printer Cindi Royce Ettinger on Somerset etching-paper with archival-pigment-print chine-collé produced by Kathie Tackman, curated with hand embellishments by McElhinney.
This is accompanied by a suite of ten (10) numbered, signed and dated archival digital facsimile prints of McElhinney’s journal-paintings on acid-free Moab Entrada Natural paper, with title-page and colophon/index page printed on archival Epson Cold Press paper, printed by Thomas Park. Orion Studios, Santa Fe. NM. Contents are loose-bound in a fine handmade cloth-covered three-fold hard-case portfolio with silver-stamped turquoise-colored label, produced by Peter Geraty of Praxis Bindery in Easthampton, Massachusetts. This limited edition is composed of 100% archival materials and limited to twenty-five (25) copies.
